EMDR

In an EMDR session, we create a safe and controlled environment where you can confront difficult memories. Our therapists will guide you through a series of eye movements or taps, synchronized with the recall of these memories. The purpose is to enable the brain to reprocess these memories, reducing their emotional impact. Over time, EMDR therapy helps clients find relief from mental distress and gain a new perspective on traumatic events.

EMDR therapy encompasses several phases, focusing on past, present, and future aspects of a traumatic memory:

  1. Assessment: Understanding the nature of your distress and identifying specific memories for treatment.

  2. Preparation: Establishing trust and explaining the EMDR process.

  3. Desensitization: Using eye movements or taps while recalling distressing memories, to lessen their emotional impact.

  4. Installation: Reinforcing positive beliefs and perspectives.

  5. Body Scan: Identifying and addressing any residual physical tension or stress.

  6. Reevaluation: Assessing progress and planning future sessions.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy offers a unique approach to mental health treatment. It is particularly effective for those struggling with trauma and PTSD, but its benefits extend beyond these conditions. Clients often report a significant decrease in the emotional distress associated with their memories. Additionally EMDR Therapy can:

  • Improve coping mechanisms and stress management.

  • Enhance self-esteem and self-awareness.

  • Facilitate emotional stability and resilience.

  • Offer a non-pharmacological and non-invasive treatment option.

Why Choose EMDR Therapy?

EMDR therapy is a well-researched, evidence-based approach to mental health care. Its effectiveness in treating a variety of conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and more, has been extensively documented in numerous studies. By incorporating bilateral stimulation techniques and guided processing of distressing memories, EMDR helps individuals reprocess traumatic experiences, leading to symptom relief and improved overall well-being. With its proven track record and widespread acceptance in the mental health community, EMDR stands as a powerful tool for healing and transformation.

It's a non-traditional form of therapy that doesn’t rely on medications or long-term treatment plans. Sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes and can provide relief often within a few sessions. If EMDR therapy sounds like it could be beneficial for you or someone you know, we encourage you to reach out.
